My name is Tércia Lopes, I graduated in Biotechnology at the Escola Superior Agrária de Coimbra (ESAC – IPC) in 2013 and i finished my Master’s and Biodiversity of Plant Biotechnology at the University of Coimbra in 2019.
My main interests are biotechnology, biodiversity and plant development.
Currently my work in CULTIVAR is mostly in line 4, where we work for the sustainable valorization, characterization and protection of endogenous natural genetic resources such as quince, peach, cherry, almond and beans.
The technique we use most in this form of conservation is in vitro tissue culture, or micropropagation, where we propagate plants in sterile conditions. Through this technique we were able to conserve material that could be lost and we managed to obtain a high number of healthy plants and disease-free plants.
