I took a degree in Biochemistry at the University of Beira Interior – UBI, between 2010 and 2013. Then I continued my studies in the same area and concluded my master’s degree in 2015. The thesis I developed in the last year of my master’s was based on gene therapy and DNA vaccines. Since 2018, I have been a senior technician in the molecular biology laboratory of the CBPBI – Centro de Biotecnologia de Plantas da Beira Interior (IPCB – Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco). In the laboratory, I apply molecular biology techniques, more specifically DNA extraction, polymerase chain amplification (PCR) and fragment analysis, in a capillary sequencer.
So, currently, my main areas of research are population genetics and the general application of molecular markers in fingerprinting and the conservation of natural resources. I am part of the CULTIVAR project, more specifically in the following lines of investigation:
- Characterization of the populations of the Lavandula stoechas complex, in the Beira Interior region, through a molecular, chemical and morphological approach.
- Molecular characterization of Arbutus unedo L.
- Provenance test of Cistus ladanifer for genetic improvement and conservation purposes.
- Conservation of the biodiversity of Asphodelus bento-rainhae subsp. bento-rainhae, in Serra da Gardunha.
