CULTIVAR project was present at the 5th National Symposium on Fruit Culture (https://v-snfruticultura.webnode.pt/) that took place in Alcobaça, in the Montebelo monastery of Hotel Alcobaça, on February 9th and 10th.
Elsa Baltazar, phD student at the University of Coimbra, within the framework of the CULTIVAR project, and in collaboration with the Pedro Nunes Institute, presented in posterist format part of the work she developed that culminated in the “First discovery in Portugal of Monilinia fructicola in Prunus persica“.
The identified pathogen causes enormous damage to the fruit sector, namely the production of prunoids. Its implementation will allow regulatory and producer strategies to be taken into account to mitigate the damage caused.
Also Rita Ramos, scholarship researcher at the University of Coimbra under the Cultivar project, and in collaboration with CATAA – Center for Agroalimentar Technological Support and Pedro Nunes Institute, presented in postter format the work she developed in her master’s thesis.
One of the objectives of this work was to characterize the structural diversity of endophyte microorganisms in wild plant species susceptible to Xylella fastidiosa infection, a phytopathogenic bacterium responsible for a wide range of diseases with enormous economic, environmental and social impact.
Participation in this symposium has allowed close contact with the problems and challenges of farmers, so the research produced by this project contributes positively to the evolution of the national agricultural sector.
