Alberto Cardoso started his master’s degree in 2020 and since then it has been held at the Laboratory of Plant Biodiversity of the University of Coimbra.
The theme of the master’s dissertation is part of the CULTIVAR project, namely in the line of research that envisions the enhancement of endogenous resources of Beira Interior. In my case, the study target is the quince tree (Cydonia oblonga Mill.). For the same purpose, I have resorted to techniques that fall into two aspects:
- Preservation of quince germplasm with recovery potential, through testing protocols for the establishment and in vitro multiplication of selected trees, as well as for the storage and germination of seeds.
- Application of molecular biology techniques, namely through the selection of a group of genetic markers that allow the identification and characterization of different varieties of quince.
